Stefanie Lipsey is the founder of Writing Yoga® retreats and workshops. She has facilitated workshops at schools, libraries, art galleries, yoga studios, retreat centers, and universities including Hofstra University and the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY for over ten years. Stefanie was a participating writer with A Room of Her Own Foundation in New Mexico in 2013 and 2015. In 2014, she received a fellowship from the Hemera Foundation to study mindfulness practices in schools at Wonderwell Mountain Refuge in New Hampshire.
Born in New York City, and a city girl at heart, Stefanie lives Long Island. She has been a school librarian in the Locust Valley Central School District since 2005 and a yoga teacher since 2007.
Through her involvement with several local historical, cultural, social, and environmental groups, she has become part of the Island landscape. Much of what she writes and teaches is inspired by all that is both wonderful and challenging about living in America’s first suburb.
Her book Sound Cliff, Twelve Words to a More Creative Life, draws images and metaphor from Long Island’s rocky and sandy coastlines. This book has helped many people to find their own creative expression.
Stefanie has an MFA in Creative Writing From Queens College. Her poems have appeared in several anthologies and journals including: Southword, Long Island Quarterly, Big City Lit, Silver Birch Press, and Token Entry: New York City Subway Poems. She has been a featured reader at poetry venues in and around New York City for nearly 20 years. You can find her in the directory of Poets & Writers.
Stefanie has been practicing yoga for 20 years and is a E-200 RYT and a Continuing Education Provider with Yoga Alliance. She has completed several teacher training programs, and has studied yoga in Los Angeles, New York and Bali, Indonesia. Stefanie invites you to take one of her heart-centered yoga classes at the Glen Cove Mansion in the new Luminous Yoga studio. Class times are Wednesdays and Fridays at 5:30 pm and Saturdays at 9:30 am. She would love to see you there!
